William Ross Hilty, 88, died at 1:52 p.m., June 3, 2008, at The Ridge at Shawnee. He was born December 24, 1919, in Lima, Ohio to David J. and Louise May Stevenson Hilty, who preceded him in death. On February 9, 1941, he married Dorothy Alice Lee, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Hilty retired as a metallurgist from Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton and then as a chief metallurgist from the Austin Wester Division of Clark Equipment. Following his retirement he was a metallurgist at Airfoil Textron. He was a member of South Side Christian Church. He was a member and past master of Garrett Wycoff Lodge 585 Free & Accepted Masons and 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton. He was a member of the American Society of Metallurgist. Survivors also include two sons, Paul Erwin (Charis) Hilty, of Greenville, Indiana, and William Carl (Mexica) Hilty, of Harrod, Ohio; a brother, Robert (Myrtle) Hilty, of Grand Junction, Colorado; four grandchildren, William Scott Hilty, of Columbus, Ohio, Travis Austin (Anne) Hilty, of Fairlawn, Tamarin (John) Harsh, of Delaware, Ohio, and Wendi (fianc?, Curtis E. Brown) Hilty, of Ramsey, Indiana; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Hilty. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Adams and Wanda Werking will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
