William ?Bill? A. Newcomer 81, died at 10:15 p.m. July 5, 2007, at Lost Creek Care Center. He was born April 18, 1926, in Lima. Ohio to Frederick and Carol Marguerite (Stoup) Newcomer, who preceded him in death. On June 26, 1948, he married Margaret M. Hunt, who died May 9, 2006. Mr. Newcomer worked at Ohio Steel Foundry in Lima, Ohio as a pattern maker and later retired from Lima Sohio Refinery after nearly 39 years of service as an insulator, pipe fitter and instrument shop technician. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima, Ohio, where he received the Military Order of the Cootie. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a World War II veteran who served as a sergeant in the 99th Infantry Division of the Army and fought the Nazis at the Remagen Bridgehead and the Ruhr Pocket. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and traveling but was never happier than when he was working with his hands. He was proud of the trades he used to make a living and his knowledge and skill of all thing s mechanical and electrical that seemed limitless. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by his family. Survivors include three sons, Jim (Cindy) Newcomer, of Lima, Ohio, Gary (Bonnie) Newcomer, of Lima, Ohio, and Scott Newcomer of Indianapolis, Indiana; three daughters, Joyce (Michael) Shirk, of Lima, Ohio, Carol (Jeff) Ballmer, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Sandra (Mike) Davis, of Lima, Ohio; a sister, Patricia Rabley-Campbell, of Florida; a brother-in-law, Frank (Jackie) Hunt of Lima, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Joan Hunt, of Lima, Ohio, and Peggy Hunt McKenna, of Lima, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brother-in-laws, Harold ?Peck? Rabley, Frank Zupan, Robert Hunt, Roger Hunt and Richard Hunt; and a sister-in-law, Norma Zupan. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gerard Catholic Church. The Rev. James McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery where a military service will follow the funeral service. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
