William J. Sarno
Age 80, was born August 19, 1934 in White Plains, NY to the late Luca & Palma (Macarella) Sarno. He passed on August 4, 2015 at St Rita`s Medical Center at 2:05 PM from heart complications.
Bill moved to Lima Ohio in 1944, attended grade school at Nazareth Hall Military School Grand Rapids OH. He then attended South High School and graduated in 1953. He married Janet Wright, who survives in Lima.
Bill started a successful career as a car salesman with Coats Motor Sales and began meeting and making friends with all of his customers in the Lima and surrounding area. He then joined Tom Connors Oldsmobile. After Tom sold his business he joined Bill Ahl now known as Tom Ahl Family Dealerships. His tenure with the Ahl family was a most successful relationship as the Ahl family embraced Bill`s hard work and passion for his job. Bill was unique as he developed friendships with many people in Northwest Ohio and beyond. Bill quickly became one of General Motors Top Regional Sales Representatives and won numerous accolades during his career with Tom Ahl. Bill was dedicated to serving people and building long lasting friendships with all of his customers. Bill was an active member of St. Johns Catholic Parish, where he was an active volunteer. He was dedicated to his community and very active in the YMCA, C.I.A.O., UNICO Club - both locally & nationally. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge -B.P.O.E. 54, K of C, Eagles and volunteered for 12 years at St Rita`s Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years , Janet Sarno and his son Bill and his wife, Lynn Sarno of Perrysburg and grandchildren, Nicholas and Victoria also of Perrysburg OH.
Also surviving are his brothers Tony (Linda) Sarno, Bob (Sue) Sarno and sister, Marie Allegretie. Sister-in-laws, Cecil McDonald, June Coats, Lavina Pugh, Rosie, Laura and Joyce Wright, and Brother-in-law Roger Wright,
He was preceded in death by his son Tony Sarno and grandson Zander Sarno.
Bill will be remembered as a friend to many, who was passionate about life and serving others, his work and his commitment to his community and many organizations throughout Lima.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 9:30 A.M. at St. John's Catholic Church, Lima, Ohio. Father David M. Ross will officiate.
Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Lima Central Catholic High School, St. Rita's Medical Center or St. John's Catholic Church.
