WILLIAM H. "BILL" SMITH, 79, died at 3:45 a.m. November 19, 2006, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born May 27, 1927, in Lima, Ohio to Carl O. and Rowena A. Myers Smith, who preceded him in death. On July 13, 1963, he married Betty Lee Burgoon, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Smith worked at the L & L Bowling Lanes in Lima, Ohio. He later owned and operated Bill Smith Bowling and Trophies, retiring after 28 years in 1992. He was inducted into the Bowling Association Hall of Fame on November 24, 1979. He graduated from South High School in 1945. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Lima, Ohio . Survivors also include a sister, Betty Grace Thomas, of Lima, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Frank Duval, of Lima, Ohio; an uncle, Dale Meyers, of Battle Creek, Michigan; six nephews, Jerry Thomas, Randy Thomas, Tim Bowers, Steve Duval, Danny Duval, and Mark Duval; six nieces, Susie Engberg, Shelly Contini, Jill Luke, Laurie Judy, Amy Engberg, and Katie Schroeder; and many great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a parish wake will begin at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
