William R. Verheyen,
95, died at 11:25 PM on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Wyngate Senior Living Community in Lima, Ohio.
William was born on Wednesday, April 4, 1923, in Tiffin, Ohio, to William J. and Ethel (West) Verheyen. March 20, 1943, he married Edna Hammonds, who preceded him in death.
William graduated from Canton McKinley High School. He served as a pilot in the US Air Force during World War II and retired from the Air Force with rank of Major after 24 years. He worked at American Electric Power for 42 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Hump Pilots Association, Inc., the Elks Lodge, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the VFW, and the American Legion.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen (Gary) Kirsch of Middleburg, FL; two sons, William R. (Roseann) Verheyen, Jr. and Jeffery (Christine) Verheyen; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren and a brother, Robert (Marie) Verheyen.
He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Kameron Clark.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio and from 5 to 8 PM
Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home, Canton, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 AM on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father Benson Okpara will officiate.
A military burial will be held in Northlawn Cemetery Canton, Ohio, at the family’s convenience.
