WILLIS K. ROGERS, 77, died at 10:05 a.m. March 30, 2007, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home. He was born June 21, 1929, in Monroe County, Indiana, to Ora and Charmion Holloway Rogers. On April 18, 1949, he married Phyllis Strain, who died March 2, 2007. Mr. Rogers retired from the U.S. Army in June 1971 after 24 years. He retired from the Army Reserve in July 1971. He served in Korea and Vietnam, and in Japan and with NATO forces in Germany. After retiring from the Army, he worked as a civilian employee for the Department of Defense. He was a charter and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6741. He was an accomplished woodworker, which included building furniture, restoring antiques and creating folk art with his wife. He immensely enjoyed his grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Michael (Lori) Rogers, of Elida, Ohio, and Frank (Rita Armstrong) Rogers, of Freeport, Maine; two daughters, Donna Jean Rogers, of New Albany, Indiana, and Roxanne (Paul Nau) Rogers of Melrose, Wis.; five grandchildren, Mary Armstrong Rogers, of Boston, Andrew Armstrong Rogers, of Freeport, Maine, Elizabeth Armstrong Rogers, of Freeport, Maine, Jessica (Clint) Roberts, of Delphos, Ohio, and Nicholas Rogers, of Elida, Ohio; a great-grandchild, Tanner Roberts, of Delphos, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Huber. A private burial of ashes will be held at the convenience of the family.
