Willis D. Sherer,
93, died at 12:05 PM on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Otterbein-Cridersville.
Willis was born on Friday, November 28, 1924, in Lima, to the late Odes O. and Clara M. (Fisher) Sherer. On August 14, 1948, he married Gloria Williams, who survives him.
Willis was a 1942 Graduate of Shawnee High School. He served in the 30th Infantry Division at the Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Belgium Croix De Guerrer. He was a member of South Side Christian Church and the American Legion Post #96. He worked for National Transit for 23 years and retired in 1993 from Otis Wright & Sons after 25 years as a truck body repairman. His passions were taking care of his yard, woodworking and spending time with his family.
He is survived by: a son, Dee (Jean Ann Kiracofe) Sherer, Lima; daughter, Barb (David) Kienitz, Lima; grandchildren, Adrienne (Jeremy) Fifer, Lima, Ashley (Dave) Weichart, Spencerville, Austin (Lauren) Sherer, Lima, Steve (Katie) Marsh, Waynesfield, Ken (Sara) Marsh, Elida, Jennifer (Chris Brady) Marsh, N.C., Josh (Ann) Kienitz, CA and Sarah (Daniel Green) Kienitz, Hillard; eleven great-grandchildren and a sister, Carol (Dick) Oglesbee, Columbus.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Gary Sherer; brother, Wilbur Sherer; sister’s, Patricia Sherer Smith and Oleta Sherer Shaw.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 PM on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A funeral service will begin at 10 AM on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio. Rev. Todd Cosart and Rev. Wanda Werking will officiate. Interment will be in Pike Run Cemetery at a later date. Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post #1275.
