Wonona Downhour

Wonona C. Downhour, 91, died at 8 a.m. February 14, 2009, at The Ridge at Shawnee. She was born March 13, 1917, in Paulding County, Ohio to George and Chloe Ashenfelter Loar, who preceded her in death. On December 24, 1942, she married Donald E. Downhour, who died March 28, 2000. Mrs. Downhour was a homemaker and had worked at Westinghouse Electric Corp. She attended Lima Baptist Temple. She was a graduate of Lima South High School. She was an avid reader and poet. She loved gardening, roses and being a mother and grandmother. Survivors include a son, Dr. Warren J. (Nancy) Downhour, of Lima, Ohio; two daughters, Ruth Anne Bare, of Norcross, Georgia, and Robert (John) Becker, of Webster, New York; and 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Louise Downhour; and a brother, Ralph Loar. Services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Shawnee United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bryan Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.
